VILLANOVA, PA ¬- No. 3 seed Syracuse will play No. 4 seed St. John's in the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse final at Villanova Stadium on May 5 at 12 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
Syracuse (8-7) ended the semifinal game against No. 2 seed Villanova on a 10-2 run to post a 15-6 victory and advance to the final.
St. John's (8-6) upset No. 1 seed Notre Dame 8-7 in the first semifinal of the evening. The Red Storm jumped out to a big lead, taking an 8-3 advantage into the fourth quarter, but the Irish mounted a comeback, scoring four goals in the fourth quarter. The Red Storm were able to hold off the comeback and advance to the inaugural championship title game.
On the line is an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. It would be the first trip for the Red Storm in program history. Syracuse has 11 NCAA titles and has made 31 NCAA tournament appearances.
St. John's has achieved the highest win total since program reinstatement in 2005 with eight. The victory over No. 2 Notre Dame was also the highest ranked opponent St. John's has beaten.
On March 25, Syracuse and St. John's met in the regular season, with the Orange posting a 9-8 victory at DaSilva Field in Queens, N.Y. Syracuse is 5-0 against St. John's and has won all three BIG EAST conference meetings.
