NEW YORK – Former Villanova men’s lacrosse standout John LoCascio was named a third-team Capital One Academic All-America selection in at-large sports, it was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The at-large team for the Capital One Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; and bowling, rowing and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
A native of Fairfield, N.J., LoCascio majored in finance with a 3.65 grade-point average. In addition to his prowess in the classroom, LoCascio became one of the finest long stick midfielders in the nation during his collegiate career. A two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, he led the Wildcats to the BIG EAST Championship game last month, and finished the season fifth in the nation with 2.25 caused turnovers per game. He scored five goals and dished 13 assists while picking up 77 ground balls.
LoCascio, who was one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, is now playing professionally with the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.
