Kyle Soroka scored a paired of goals to help Villanova defeat Stony Brook 4-1 at home on Tuesday evening. The last time the Wildcats had four goals came in the 2009 season, when VU posted a 4-1 win against Seton Hall and a 4-2 win against DePaul. After defeating Manhattan 5-1 in its season opener, Villanova has recorded nine goals over two games and has an average goal differential of 3.5.

Freshman Jordan Vale scored his first collegiate goal in the second period, and freshman goalkeeper Alex Bono completed his second consecutive shutout as Syracuse held on to defeat Binghamton 1-0 on Aug. 28. The victory at the Bearcats Sports Complex marks the first time Syracuse has started a campaign with a 2-0 record since 2006.
After the first week of play, eight BIG EAST teams are mentioned in the two national polls. In the NSCAA National Rankings, USF and Connecticut are at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Louisville is at No. 14, St. John's at No. 15 and Georgetown is at No. 21. Notre Dame, Rutgers and Marquette each received votes. In the Soccer America national poll, there are five BIG EAST teams (No. 1 Connecticut, No. 9 USF, No. 15, Notre Dame, No. 18 St. John's and No. 21 Georgetown).
This afternoon DePaul hosts Western Illinois at 1 p.m. The Blue Demons won their first game against Illinois-Chicago last weekend.
In the Northeast Region, seven of the top 10 teams are from the BIG EAST, including the top five. USF is first, followed by Georgetown, Connecticut, St. John's and Rutgers. Villanova is seventh and Syracuse is ninth. In the Great Lakes Region, there are four BIG EAST teams ranked in the top 10, led by Notre Dame at No. 3. Marquette is tied in fourth with Wisconsin, while Louisville is eighth and DePaul is ranked 10th.
