Nine men's soccer teams kick-off their seasons today with numerous squads playing home-openers. Five teams will get set for 7 p.m. games as Cincinnati welcomes Dayton, Pittsburgh hosts Robert Morris and Syracuse hosts Siena, while Villanova will be on the road at Bucknell and Rutgers heads to Lehigh. No. 22/10 Connecticut, the preseason favorite to win the Blue Division, will open its season at home against St. Francis (N.Y.) at 7:30 p.m. while No. 16/19 USF plays its home-opener against Florida Gulf Coast also at 7:30 p.m. DePaul rounds out tonight's action as they travel to Wisconsin-Green Bay for an 8 p.m. match.
Women's soccer begins conference play as Georgetown hits the road at Villanova with kickoff set for 4 p.m. The Hoyas have opened the year with a 3-0-0 record and are ranked No. 22 in the country in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top 25 poll. Villanova is 2-1-0 on the young season. The meeting on Wednesday will be the 16th all-time between the programs. The Hoyas posted a 4-0 win last season.
Louisville is the lone volleyball team in action tonight as the Cardinals hit the road for a date with intrastate rival and No. 16 Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. The Wildcats (0-2) will be looking for their first win of the season after a tough start in the Runza/AVCA Showcase where they fell to No. 2 Nebraska and No. 9 Iowa State. Louisville leads the all-time series with Kentucky, 24-23 in a rivalry that dates back to 1977. The Cardinals have won 19 of the last 20 meetings between the two squads.
