Marquette, St. John's, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh Take Men's Soccer Honors

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Marquette's Axel Sjoberg earned honors as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Rafael Diaz of St. John's earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. Notre Dame's Luke Mishu was tabbed as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Nick Wysong of Pittsburgh was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.

 

Sjoberg scored both goals in a 2-1 win against Michigan. He also had the gamewinner in double overtime in a  2-1 win against Michigan State. Diaz totaled 10 saves and posted one shutout in an 0-0-2 week for St. John's. He stopped four shots against No. 9/9 Akron to post his fourth shutout of the season in a scoreless draw. He made a season-high six saves in a 1-1 tie with Butler.

 

Mishu was part of an Irish backline that did not surrender a goal in 193:42 of play during the weekend as Notre Dame blanked both Michigan State and Michigan. The Irish allowed just two shots on goal to both teams. Wysong scored all three goals in a 3-2 win against Northern Kentucky and added an assist in a 2-1 win at Duquesne.

Helped a defense that allowed one goal in two games in a 2-0-0 week for the Hoyas.
Max Garcia, Seton Hall, Jr., F
Scored the game-winning goal in the Pirates' 1-0 upset over No. 19 Monmouth.
