Greg Klazura, a senior defender from Notre Dame, was named BIG EAST Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Andre Black from Connecticut earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. Freshman midfielder Marcos Ugarte from Providence was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and C. Nortey of Marquette, a freshman forward, took BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors.
Klazura played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 win against No. 5/6 Louisville. He was part of an Irish defense that recorded its second-straight shutout and third of the season. The ND defense has a current scoreless streak of 270:21. The Cardinals entered the game against Notre Dame averaging 2.14 goals per game.
Blake recorded back-to-back 2-0 shutouts over No. 10/14 Boston College and No. 12/12 St. John's, finishing the week with nine saves. He notched a season-high eight saves on the road at BC and has extended his shutout streak to 568:46.
Ugarte scored his first two goals of the season in the second-half to lead Providence to a 2-0 win against Cincinnati. He netted both goals within a three minute span to give the Friars the win.
Nortey scored two goals, including the gamewinner in the 87th minute, in a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Syracuse. He scored on both shots that he took.
