Marquette's Charlie Lyon Named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week


PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Leading Marquette to its 10th-straight win, redshirt-sophomore Charlie Lyon earned BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Carlos Alvarez, a senior midfielder from Connecticut, earned his second-straight BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week nod. St. John's sophomore defender Tim Parker was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. Georgetown's Brandon Allen was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the second time.


Lyon faced 17 shots and made a career-high nine saves to preserve his sixth shutout of the season, and second in as many BIG EAST games, with a 2-0 win at Providence. He helped the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 double-overtime win against Wisconsin earlier in the week.


Alvarez assisted on both goals in a 2-0 win against Yale before having a hand in the two goals that led the No. 2/2 Huskies to a 2-1 win against No. 8/9 Notre Dame. Alvarez had a goal and an assist against the Fighting Irish, extending his point streak to six games.


Parker anchored a defense that allowed a total of nine shots, including just four shots on goal, in a 2-0 week. After limiting Columbia to three shots in a 3-1 win, Parker and the Red Storm defense held DePaul to six shots, with only one on goal, in a 2-0 conference victory.


Allen had five points in a 2-0 week for Georgetown. He assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at James Madison. Allen scored a pair of goals, including the gamewinner, in a 3-1 victory at Pittsburgh. He is leading the conference with six gamewinners this season.



Flo Liu, Connecticut, Sr., D

Liu scored the game-winning goal against No. 8/9 Notre Dame after leading a defense that shut out Yale.

Keon Parsa, Georgetown, Jr., GK

Parsa made 10 saves in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas. He earned a shutout against James Madison on the road, snapping a 15-game unbeaten streak.

Grant Van De Casteele, Notre Dame, Sr., D

Van De Casteele scored the gamewinner in the 71st minute in a 1-0 win at No. 11/10 Indiana. It was the only second-half goal allowed by the Hoosiers this season. He also anchored an Irish defense that blanked Indiana to notch its fifth shutout of the season.

Kene Eze, Rutgers, Jr., F

Eze notched both gamewinners in a 2-0 week for RU. He had a goal in a 2-1 win against Central Connecticut State and one in a 2-1 upset of RV/24 Louisville.

Eric Osswald, USF, Jr., GK

Made nine saves in a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Villanova after posting his third shutout of the season against Florida Gulf Coast.
