Providence, Butler Advance To Semifinals

In the quarterfinal round of men's soccer BIG EAST Championship action on Tuesday, No. 4 seed Providence defeated No. 5 seed Creighton 2-1 and No. 6 seed Butler won at No. 3 seed Xavier 1-0. Providence advances to play No. 1 seed Georgetown in the semifinals on Friday at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. The game will start at 6 p.m. ET. Butler will meet No. 2 Marquette in the other semifinal battle at 8:30 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet for the BIG EAST title on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m. The match will be televised by FOX Sports 1. Providence got a goal and an assist from Dominick Wilder in its victory over visiting Creighton. Teammate Dominick Machado scored the winning goal in the 64th minute. Eric DeJulio scored for the Bluejays. Freshman David Goldsmith scored the game's only goal to help Butler beat Xavier. He scored his 12th goal of the season in the 28th minute. Bulldog goalkeeper Jon Dawson made four saves.
