Louisville and Providence will Compete for the BIG EAST Champions Cup



HARRISON, N.J.- Red Division No. 1 Louisville and Blue Division No. 5 seed Providence will meet in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship final on Sunday, Nov. 14 at Red Bull Arena.
Louisville earned a first-round bye and defeated Blue Division No. 4 West Virginia 3-0 on Nov. 6 in the quarterfinals. The Cardinals defeated Blue Division No. 2 Notre Dame 1-0 on Friday in the semifinals.
The Friars defeated Red Division No. 2 Cincinnati 2-1 in the first semifinal of the day. It was their third upset victory in as many matches in the championship, as PC defeated Red Division No. 4 Villanova 3-0 in the first round and won against Blue Division No. 1 Georgetown 2-1 in the quarterfinal.
The Cardinals opened their 2010 conference season against Providence on Sept. 25, recording a 2-1 victory. Sunday's contest will be Louisville's first appearance in the final and Providence's second trip, but first under Head Coach Chaka Daley. Providence fell to Connecticut 1-0 in the final in 1984.
