Georgetown Advances to College Cup for First Time


There were a record eight teams chosen from the BIG EAST to compete in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. There is one BIG EAST team that will be competing for the College Cup this weekend, as No. 3 seed Georgetown has advanced to the Final Four. The semifinals will be held at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 7 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala. The title game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.

Georgetown made program history, defeating San Diego 3-1 on Dec. 1 in front of a sellout crowd at North Kehoe Field in the NCAA quarterfinals. It is the first trip to the NCAA College Cup for the Hoyas. GU will play No. 2 seed Maryland in the semifinals, which will be televised live on ESPNU. Georgetown fans can listen to an audio-only webcast on featuring Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser.

Entering the Elite Eight round, there were three BIG EAST teams still in action as No. 4 seed Connecticut hosted Creighton and No. 10 seed Louisville played at Maryland. The Cardinals were defeated 3-1 on the road and the Terrapins advance to play Georgetown.

The Huskies were preparing for overtime in a scoreless draw on Sunday until Creighton scored with 90 seconds remaining. Creighton advances to play Indiana in the other semifinal.
