ROSEMONT, Ill. – Jasmine Penny scored 26 pointswhile Chanise Jenkins added 23 as top-seeded DePaul reached the BIG EAST championship game for the first time with a 100-90 semifinal victory over Marquette on Monday at Allstate Arena.

The Blue Demons (26-6), the BIG EAST regular-season champs, meet No. 2 seed St. John’s (22-9) for the tourney title and automatic NCAA berth at 9 p.m. (ET) Tuesday. The game will be aired live on FOX Sports 1.

DePaul, ranked No. 23 in Associated Press rankings released Monday, reached the century mark on offense for the first time this season as Megan Rogowski added 21 points and Brittany Hrynko had 11.

Katie Young scored 25 points, Brooklyn Pumroy had 21, Katherine Plouffe had 19 points and 17 rebounds and Arlesia Morse added 12 points for No. 5 seed Marquette (21-10).

The Blue Demons led by as many as 19 points in the second half but the Golden Eagles didn’t fold.

Marquette went on an 8-0 run on 3-pointers from Plouffe and Pumroy and a Young layup over two minute span and closed to within single digits at 71-60 with 9:27 to play.

DePaul pushed the lead back to as many as 17 points but Marquette made another run and closed to within seven at 89-82 after a Young 3-pointer and Morse’s jumper with 2 minutes showing.

A minute later the Blue Demon lead was just six at 93-87 after Pumroy’s third 3-pointer. But six straight DePaul free throws over 36 seconds secured the decision.

DePaul overcame a slow start to sprint past Marquette with a 12-6 run over a span of 6:31 for their first double-digit lead at 24-14 midway through the half.

The Blue Demons opened a 12-point lead with 3:34 showing after Rogowski’s layup. Brandi Harvey-Carr’s two free throws a minute later extended the lead to 15 points at 47-32. A Rogowski jumper and Jessica January layup in the final minute pushed DePaul’s lead to 55-38 by halftime.

Monday’s game was the 61st all-time between the programs, with the Blue Demons now leading 38-23. The teams split a pair of regular season games. Marquette won 91-85 on Jan 29 in Chicago while DePaul claimed an 80-74 decision on Feb. 18 in Milwaukee.

St. John’s reached the BIG EAST championship game with a 68-63 double-overtime win over Creighton earlier Monday.  DePaul split regular season games with Red Storm, falling 96-86 on Jan. 11 at home and beating the St. John’s 80-65 on March 1 on the road.
