NEW YORK, N.Y. – Marquette’s Katherine Plouffe was named the BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Georgetown’s Natalie Butler was awarded BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as announced by the league on Monday. Plouffe was recognized for the second time this season, while Butler’s accolade was her fifth.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Katherine Plouffe, Marquette, Sr., F
Plouffe averaged a double-double of 23.5 points and 11 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for Marquette. She scored a career-high 33 points in MU’s overtime win at Georgetown on Saturday, tallying 11 of the Golden Eagles’ 13 points in the extra period, and snagging a game-high 13 rebounds. In Marquette’s two-point setback to Villanova on Wednesday, the senior forward had a team-high 14 points in 29 minutes of play. For the week, Plouffe shot .484 from the field and was 15-15 from the free-throw line.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Natalie Butler, Georgetown, Fr., C
Butler maintained her spot as the league’s top rebounder following a pair of double-doubles last week. Against Creighton on Wednesday, Butler scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds before scoring 12 points and corralling 12 boards against Marquette on Saturday. For the week, the freshman averaged 18 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots. For the season, Butler is the top scoring freshman at 15.1 points per game and leads all BIG EAST players with a 12.7 rebounding average.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
McKenzie Fujan, Creighton, Sr., G
Recorded the highest scoring output by a BIG EAST player this season with 38 points against DePaul on Saturday in a nationally televised tilt (FOX Sports 1). Fujan averaged 23.5 points per game over the week, shooting .556 from the floor.
Alexis Harris, Providence, Jr., F
Averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, two assists and 1.5 blocks in two games last week, including a 23-point showing at Villanova on Saturday.
Devon Kane, Villanova, Sr., G
Led the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, averaging 14 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 48 percent from the field. Scored 17 points and registered seven assists in VU’s win over Providence on Saturday.
Jasmine Penny, DePaul, Sr., F
Eclipsed the 25-point mark in both games last week, including 27 against Xavier on Wednesday and 26 at Creighton in a nationally televised game on Saturday night. Penny leads all scorers in BIG EAST games at 26.5 points per game.
Andrea White, Georgetown, Sr., F
Tallied a double-double of 22 points, 11 rebounds against Marquette on Saturday en route to averaging 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds for the week.
