Second Half Spells Victory
Down four at intermission (31-27), DePaul outscored Seton Hall on the Pirates' home court 48-37 over the final 20 minutes to secure the 75-68 win and improve to 12-5, including 3-2 in BIG EAST play. SHU falls to 1-3 against league foes and 10-5 overall. Megan Rogowski and Brittany Hrynko combined to score 27 points in the second half to fuel DePaul's come-from-behind victory.
DePaul's Jasmine Penny and Seton Hall's Ka-Deidre Simmons scored 21 points apiece to tie for the game high. Simmons was tabbed the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, while Penny is the league's leading scorer in conference play at 24 points per game. Penny was credited with her second career double-double after snagging 11 boards against the Pirates.
It's another busy Wednesday for BIG EAST teams with seven teams in action. St. John's will host its fourth annual Field Trip Day with an 11:30 a.m. tip against first-time foe Butler at Carnesecca Arena. Georgetown travels to Providence (7 p.m.), while Creighton will host Xavier (8 p.m.). Villanova will play the final non-conference game on the schedule when it wraps up Big 5 play against Penn at 7 p.m.
What We're Watching
DePaul and Villanova will be featured in the BIG EAST's FOX Sports 1 Game of the Week. The tilt will pit two of the longest-tenured and most-respected coaches in women's basketball against each other in the Blue Demons' Doug Bruno and the Wildcats' Harry Perretta. The two have combined for more than 1,200 wins. Tipoff on Sunday, Jan. 19, is at 3 p.m., Eastern, at DePaul's McGrath-Phillips Arena.
