High-Scoring Affair
Three of the BIG EAST’s top-four scoring teams were in action on Tuesday night, with the Nos. 2 and 3 highest-scoring squads collecting wins. Marquette edged Providence, 87-79, for its first league win at home this season, while Seton Hall earned a road win at Xavier, 72-62. The Golden Eagles, Friars and Pirates all average north of 70 points per game this season, with BIG EAST scoring leader DePaul (84.3) taking the court Wednesday at Georgetown.

Unlikely Loss
For the first time since Feb. 10, 1998, Providence reached 79 points in regulation and lost. The Friars entered the contest at Marquette sporting a 4-0 record this season when scoring 79 or more, winning by an average of 24 points in those four contests. PC fell to Miami on that date in 1998, by a score of 90-79.

Important Points By Plouffe
Marquette is 7-0 this season when senior Katherine Plouffe eclipses the 20-point mark, but just 3-4 when the BIG EAST’s active career scoring leader scores 19 or less. Plouffe is the league’s leading scorer this season as well, averaging 19.6 points per game following her 23-point performance against Providence on Tuesday. Her 1,311 career points lead all active conference players and ranks 10th all-time at Marquette.

Dialed In From Deep
Xavier matched its season high for three-pointers made with 11 against Seton Hall on Tuesday night, while the Pirates’ Tabatha Richardson-Smith knocked down four threes of her own. The Musketeers make an average of eight triples per game against conference foes, ranking second in the BIG EAST, while Richardson-Smith also ranks second in the league, making 2.8 shots from beyond the arc per game.

What’s Up For Wednesday
A pair of games are on Wednesday’s calendar, including the red hot Red Storm traveling to Villanova. St. John’s has won a BIG EAST-best four in a row by an average of 8.5 points per game. The Red Storm received votes (seven) in the latest AP Poll released on Monday, while DePaul, which travels to Georgetown on Wednesday night, received votes in both the AP (one) and USA Today Coaches Poll (four).
