There were three BIG EAST women's basketball games on Sunday, including Rutgers who held off No. RV/25 Syracuse at home with a 54-47 win. The Scarlet Knights (13-9, 6-3 BIG EAST) improved to 9-1 at home and earned their third win over a ranked opponent this year. Rutgers also swept the season series against the Orange (16-6, 4-5 BIG EAST), winning at the Carrier Dome on Jan. 11. Sophomore Monique Oliver led the Rutgers offense with 15 points, along with six rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Syracuse junior Iasia Hemingway scored a game-high 18 points in the loss. Up the road in South Orange, N.J., the Providence Friars (10-11, 3-6 BIG EAST) pulled out a 58-55 victory at Seton Hall (7-15, 0-9 BIG EAST). PC sophomore Symone Roberts scored 12 of her game-high 14 points in the second half to fuel the win. Senior Mi-Khida Hankins added 13 points and eight rebounds as the Friars earned their third conference win of the year. Seton Hall tied the game 55-55 with 36 seconds remaining on the clock. The Friars managed to hit 3-of-4 free throws to seal the win down the stretch. The Pirates rimmed out a 3-pointer from the left side of the floor as time expired. There were 13 ties and 18 lead changes. Junior Jasmine Crew led the Pirates with 14 points. Louisville (15-9, 6-4 BIG EAST) also won on the road, beating Villanova (8-14, 0-9 BIG EAST) by the score of 64-48. Junior Monique Reid led all scorers with 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Cardinals, who have exceeded their win total from last year (14). Sophomore Laura Sweeney led Villanova with 14 points and eight rebounds. BIG EAST women's basketball returns to action on Tuesday night with five games on the schedule, including a nationally televised doubleheader on CBS College Sports. No. 14/15 West Virginia hosts No. 2/2 Connecticut at 7 p.m. ET, while No. 17/19 Georgetown welcomes USF to the nation's capital at 9 p.m. ET.
