PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Six BIG EAST women's basketball teams remain ranked in both the Associated Press and the USA Today/ESPN Coachespolls after the 13th week of play.
Notre Dame (23-1, 10-0 BIG EAST)held onto the number two spot in both polls after a 2-0 week with victories over two ranked teams, No. 13/16 Rutgers and No. RV/23 DePaul. ND has proven itself against a tough schedule, recording a 8-1 record against teams ranked in the top-25, with its only loss coming at No. 1/1 Baylor on Nov. 20 in the championship game of the Preseason WNIT. The Irish will head to Syracuse, N.Y. on Feb. 7 to take on the Orange at 7 p.m.
Connecticut kept its hold at No. 3 in both polls after winning at home for the 98th-straight time. On Feb. 4, the Huskies downed No. 17/16 Rutgers 66-34 at Gampel Pavilion. Up next, the Huskies (21-2, 9-1 BIG EAST) travel to No. 20/17 Louisville on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in a game televised on the CBS Sports Network.
Georgetown made the biggest jump of the week, up to No. 14 in the AP poll and No. 13 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll. The Hoyas (18-5, 7-3 BIG EAST) have won five of their last six games, with their most recent a 65-54 win at Cincinnati. Up next, GU will host Seton Hall on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
Rutgers fell four spots in the AP poll to No. 17 and two spots in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll to No. 13. The Scarlet Knights (17-6, 6-4 BIG EAST) suffered back-to-back losses to No. 2/2 Notre Dame and at No. 3/3 Connecticut. RU will have a week off before looking to rebound on Feb. 12 when they host St. John's, who is receiving votes in both polls.
Louisville (17-6, 6-4 BIG EAST), which has lost two-straight road games at RV/No. 22 DePaul and at West Virginia, dropped to No. 20 in the AP poll and No. 17 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll. The Cardinals return home for two games against No. 3/3 Connecticut on Feb. 7 and Syracuse on Feb. 11.
DePaul is receiving votes in the AP poll and sits at No. 22 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll. The Blue Demons (17-7, 5-5 BIG EAST) beat No. 14/12 Louisville at home on Jan. 31 before falling to No. 2/2 Notre Dame on the road on Feb. 5. DPU will host Villanova on Feb. 8 at 8 p.m.
DePaul and St. John's and West Virginia are receiving votes in the AP poll while both the Red Storm and the Mountaineers are receiving votes in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll.
