WBB Minute - Providence Earns First Road Win, In 2OT Wednesday

Updated BIG EAST Notes

Providence (7-15, 2-7 BIG EAST) defeated Pittsburgh 85-83 in double overtime in the Steel City on Wednesday night. Seniors Brianna Edwards and Symone Roberts (pictured) combined on 48 of the Friars' 85 points on the night. Edwards collected her fourth double-double of the season with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Roberts added 23 points and collected six boards, five assists and three steals.

Edwards scored what proved to be the game-winner with 40 seconds remaining after freshman Evi Iiskola forced a Panther turnover. Pittsburgh missed five shots in the final 28 seconds and the Friars escaped with the victory.

There were six ties and three lead changes. The Friars earned their first road win of the season. Pittsburgh (9-13, 0-9 BIG EAST) has lost nine in a row. It was the first double-overtime game in league play since Jan. 8, 2011 when Marquette edged Georgetown 75-73 in McDonough Arena.

In Chicago, DePaul (17-6, 6-3 BIG EAST) beat Seton Hall 74-48 for its 12th win in a row at home. Junior Jasmine Penny scored a career-high 29 points and shot 12-of-15 (80-percent) from the field. Senior Katherine Harry grabbed 12 rebounds and remained the league's active career leader with 500 boards in BIG EAST play. She needs three more to move into 20th all-time in conference history.

Seton Hall (8-14, 3-6 BIG EAST) has won three league games this year, equaling its total from the past three years combined.
