CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Rutgers to play in the BIG EAST Game of the Week Saturday at 6 p.m.
The game will be televised live by SNY and will additionally be carried locally by FOX Sports Ohio. Please note that due to travel limitations, no internet radio broadcast will be available for this game.
SERIES HISTORY: Cincinnati has never defeated Rutgers in eight meetings. Rutgers holds four wins on the road, three in Cincinnati and one on a neutral court. Rutgers was victorious in last year's meeting by a 64-51 score.
LAST TIME OUT: Cincinnati (8-14, 0-9) enters Saturday's contest coming off a 72-48 loss to Syracuse. The Bearcats took a 25-23 lead with 4:05 left in the first half and trailed by just a four-point margin at the break but couldn't hold off the Orange. Syracuse closed out the contest with a 13-3 scoring edge over the final 6:47 of the game.
UC held a 33-32 edge in rebounds, despite the Orange entering the contest averaging over eight rebounds more per game than their foes. Dayeesha Hollins lead the squad in scoring with 13 points while Alyesha Lovett dished out three assists and grabbed four rebounds.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS: Rutgers (13-8, 4-4) enters the contest following a 58-50 overtime win against Villanova. With the Wildcats leading by eight 42-34 with 9:11 left in the second half, Rutgers closed out regulation outscoring Villanova 12-4 to force the extra stanza. In overtime, Rutgers outscored Villanova 12-4 with all four Wildcat points coming from the free throw line. Sophomore Betnijah Laney accounted for six of her 12 points in the overtime session.
Rutgers ranks 15th nationally in scoring defense at 52.4 points ands 48th nationally in steals (11.0) per contest. Rutgers features a pair of starters averaging better than 10 points per game. Monique Oliver paces 10.5 points while Erica Wheeler paces 10.3 points. Lee and Oliver lead the team in rebounding with 5.0 and 4.9 per game respectively.
