Updated BIG EAST Notes
There are three league games on tap for Wednesday night, including one nationally televised contest as USF (16-6, 5-4 BIG EAST) hosts St. John's (11-10, 5-4 BIG EAST) at 4 p.m. ET on the CBS Sports Network. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night, but moved a day because of a Nor'Easter across New England last weekend.
The teams are tied in the league standings at 5-4 in conference play. In addition, St. John's leads the all-time series 5-2 and has won the last three in a row.
Elsewhere, Seton Hall (8-15, 3-7 BIG EAST) hosts Villanova (16-7, 5-5 BIG EAST) and Marquette (12-11, 4-6 BIG EAST) travels to Cincinnati (8-15, 0-10 BIG EAST). Both games will begin at 7 p.m.
Two road teams won Wednesday night, both were ranked. No. 3/2 Connecticut won at Providence 105-49 while No. 23/21 Syracuse knocked off Georgetown 69-60.
UConn (23-1, 10-1 BIG EAST) had six players in double figures and shot 57-percent from the field. Sophomore Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led the offense with 17 points. Providence (7-17, 2-9 BIG EAST) got a team-high 17 points from senior Brianna Edwards who shot 8-of-12 from the field.
Syracuse (20-3, 8-2 BIG EAST) swept the season series against Georgetown following Tuesday's win in Washington, D.C. The Orange have won four in a row and captured their fourth-straight 20-win season. Combined with 86-56 victory at the Carrier Dome on Jan. 12, Syracuse took the season series against GU for the first time since 1995-96. Senior Kayla Alexander had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Orange.
Georgetown (13-11, 4-7 BIG EAST) senior Sugar Rodgers had eight points and seven rebounds. Despite shooting 1-of-12 from the field, Rodgers continues to lead the league in scoring at 22.5 ppg.
The closest game of the night took place in Chicago as DePaul (18-7, 7-4 BIG EAST) slipped past Rutgers 60-57 on the CBS Sports Network. DePaul sophomore Brittany Hrynko nailed a 3-pointer with 10.2 seconds left to give the Blue Demons the win. She finished with 15 points as the Blue Demons improved to 14-1 at home this year and extended their home winning streak to 13 games, tops in the BIG EAST.
Rutgers (14-9, 5-5 BIG EAST) head coach C. Vivian Stringer remains at 899 career wins and will go for No. 900 on Saturday at 4 p.m. against UConn. The game will be televised on SNY.
