BIG EAST Player of the Week

Andrea Smith, USF, Sr., G (Lakeland, Fla./Gulf Coast CC/Lake Gibson)

Smith averaged 26.5 points per game and seven rebounds per game while leading the Bulls to two wins against ranked teams last week. In a victory at No. 12/11 Louisville, Smith tied a career-high with 35 points, shooting 68.8 percent from the floor (11-of-16) and 60 percent from 3-point range (5-of-6).  In a win at home against No. 21/18 Syracuse, Smith had 18 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. She added three assists. Smith shot 8-of-8 from the free throw line for the week.

 

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Jewell Loyd, Notre Dame, Fr., G (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West)

Loyd had 19 points in a win on the road against DePaul on Feb. 24. She shot 8-of-15 from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. She added three rebounds, two assists and a steal in the victory.

 

BIG EAST Honor Roll

Dayeesha Hollins Cincinnati, R-Jr., G

Hollins averaged 17.0 ppg in a 2-0 week for the Bearcats. She shot 56.5 percent from the floor for the week and added 4.0 rpg, nine assists and four steals.

 

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Connecticut, So., F

Mosqueda-Lewis averaged 22.0 points and 10.0 rpg while shooting 77 percent from the floor and 60 percent from 3-point range in a 1-1 week for the Huskies. Against No. 1/1 Baylor, she had 26 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

 

Andrea White, Georgetown, Jr., F

White posted her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Pittsburgh.

 

Skylar Diggins, Notre Dame, Sr., G

Diggins recorded a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the Irish's win against DePaul on Feb. 24. It was the second of her career.

 

Nadirah McKenith, St. John's, Sr., G

McKenith led the Red Storm in a 2-0 week, averaging 18.5 ppg and 6.0 apg. She had 21 points against Rutgers and 16 points and eight assists against Marquette.

 

BIG EAST Notes

Picking Up the Triple-Double

Senior Skylar Diggins recorded the 17th triple-double in history by a BIG EAST player (12th in BIG EAST regular-season play), and the fourth in Notre Dame history with 17 points and game highs of 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an 84-56 win at DePaul on Feb. 24. Diggins also becomes just the fifth BIG EAST player with multiple triple-doubles in her career.

 

USF Picks Up Two Ranked Wins

No. 21/18 Syracuse fell to USF 68-66 at the Sun Dome on Feb. 23. The win against the Orange was the Bulls' second win over a top-25 team in as many games. USF defeated No. 12/11 Louisville on Feb. 20 at the KFC Yum! Center.

 

Bearcats Post Win Against Providence

Cincinnati defeated Providence at home 64-45 on Feb. 23. The 19-point margin of victory was the largest of the season for the Bearcats.

 

400 Conference Wins For Auriemma

UConn head coach Geno Auriemma earned his 400th regular-season conference win following a 90-30 victory over Seton Hall on Feb. 23. He joins Tara VanDerveer as the only women's basketball coaches to win 400 games in a single conference. VanDerveer won her 400th Pac-12 game when Stanford beat Oregon on Feb. 1. Auriemma is 400-60 for a .870 win percentage in BIG EAST play.

 

St. John's Red Hot

St. John's swept the regular-season series against Rutgers following a 61-48 victory on Feb. 23 at home. The Red Storm have won a season-high five in a row. Senior Nadirah McKenith scored 21 points, shot 7-of-13 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
