BIG EAST Game of the Week
No. 2/2 Notre Dame will play at Providence on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. The Irish (14-0) are undefeated in league play this season. PC senior Symone Roberts enters the game against Notre Dame with 338 career assists, currently tied for ninth all-time at Providence with Chrissy Vozab '02. Roberts has a career-best 122 assists this season, passing the century mark for the first time in her career. Roberts' 122 assists are the most in a single season since Mandy Saunders '98 dished 135 during the 1997-98 campaign.
BIG EAST Championship Watch
The BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship will be held March 8-12 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. Notre Dame (26-1, 14-0) and Connecticut (26-2, 13-1) have clinched byes to the quarterfinals. The two teams meet in the final game of the regular season on March 4 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2. That game is one of two top-25 matchups in the BIG EAST regular season finale, as No. 16/14 Louisville will play at No. 22/20 Syracuse on the CBS Sports Network at 9 p.m. ET. The Cardinals (23-6, 11-4) and Orange (22-5, 10-4) have clinched byes to the second round, along with NR/RV St. John's (16-10, 10-4), DePaul (19-9, 8-6) and RV/RV USF (19-8, 8-6).
Looking to Break the Tie
Marquette (13-14) and Georgetown (14-13) are tied for 10th place in the league. The two teams will meet on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET in Washington, D.C. There are two other ties in the standings, as Syracuse and St. John's sit in fourth with matching 10-4 records. The Orange defeated the Red Storm on 60-57 on Jan. 23 to hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. In sixth place, DePaul and USF hold 8-6 marks in league play. The Blue Demons posted a 91-75 victory against the Bulls on Jan. 12 to sit on top.
Streaking at the Right Time
No. 16/14 Louisville defeated visiting Seton Hall 72-62 on Feb. 27. The Cardinals have won nine of their past 11 games. St. John's won at Villanova on Feb. 27 and has won six-straight games, including four-straight as the visiting team in BIG EAST play.
With a 68-56 victory at home against USF on Feb. 26, Rutgers head coach C. Vivian Stringer became the fourth women's college basketball coach to reach 900 wins. Stringer joined Pat Summitt and Jody Conradt, as well as Sylvia Hatchell, who reached the mark on Feb. 7. Only three Division I men's coaches have reached 900 victories - Mike Krzyzewski, Bob Knight and Jim Boeheim. Stringer holds a career mark of 900-330 for a .732 winning percentage.
Picking Up the Triple-Double
Senior Skylar Diggins recorded the 16th points-rebounds-assists triple-double in history by a BIG EAST player (11th in BIG EAST regular-season play), and the fourth in Notre Dame history with 17 points and game highs of 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an 84-56 win at DePaul on Feb. 24. Diggins also became just the fifth BIG EAST player with multiple triple-doubles in her career.
