HARTFORD, Conn. - No. 14 seed Marquette (14-16) held off No. 11 seed Cincinnati (15-15) by the score of 54-51 to close out the First Round of the 2012 BIG EAST women's basketball Championship presented by American Eagle Outfitters.

Sophomore Katie Young scored a team-high 17 points for Marquette, while freshman teammate Arlesia Morse added 16. The rookie tallied all 16 points in the second half as the Golden Eagles won their first game in the BIG EAST tournament for the third straight year.

The Golden Eagles shot 32-percent from the field, but made eight 3-pointers. Cincinnati shot 31-percent and converted just four 3-pointers.

Senior Bjonee Reaves led the Bearcats with 15 points, including four 3-pointers. The rest of the Bearcats were a combined 0-8 from 3-point range.

There were eight ties and six lead changes.

With the win, Marquette will play No. 6 seed Rutgers on Saturday at approximately 8 p.m. ET. Rutgers beat Marquette during the regular-season 69-58 on Feb. 27.
