Five Former BIG EAST Women's Basketball Players Earn All-WNBA Accolades

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The BIG EAST Conference landed five former women's basketball players on the 2010 All-WNBA Teams with two making the first team and three assigned to the second. Three different BIG EAST schools were represented on the All-WNBA lists as Connecticut, Louisville and Rutgers all had former players earn honors.    
The 2010 All-WNBA First Team included Cappie Pondexter, a 2006 Rutgers graduate, and Diana Taurasi, a 2004 Connecticut grad. Pondexter is a guard for the New York Liberty, receiving 193 points. She was also named to this year's WNBA All-Defensive Team. Phoenix Mercury guard Taurasi had 185 points. Taurasi was the 2004 BIG EAST Player of the Year, while Pondexter earned that honor in 2006.
Second team accolades went to Angle McCoughtry, Tina Charles and Sue Bird. McCoughtry was a 2009 graduate of Louisville, while Charles and Bird both played for UConn, finishing in 2010 and 2002, respectively. McCoughtry, a force down low for the Atlanta Dream, received 119 points, while Connecticut Sun center Charles collected 86. Bird, a guard for the Seattle Storm, led all five of the second team honorees with 123 points. McCoughtry was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in 2009, while Charles and Bird were named the BIG EAST Player of the Year in 2010 and 2002, respectively.
