PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Thirty head coaches. Over 60 players. Hundreds of reporters, television crews, VIPs, athletic administrators. BIG EAST men's and women's basketball media days are frenzied events. And for the first time ever, the only place fans can consume them live is by watching on their computers, smartphones or tablets on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Hosted by IMG and ESPN's John Rooke and John Celestand (former NBA player and Villanova standout), Live from BIG EAST Media Day will begin shortly after 10 a.m. ET on Oct. 17 when the BIG EAST men's basketball preseason poll of the league's head coaches will be unveiled. For three straight hours after that, Rooke and Celestand will interview various coaches and players in attendance and discuss many conference storylines heading into the 2012-13 season. ESPN's Bob Picozzi, who can be seen calling the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Game of the Week on a regular basis, will take the conference's women's basketball fans through the same format the following day.
Though players haven't begun practicing yet, the BIG EAST has started ramping up its efforts to make its basketball media days more social than ever. #BEMediaDay will be the official hashtag for both events. In addition, the conference's official Twitter handles @BigEastMBB and @BigEastWBB, Pinterest page, Facebook page and Instagram page are already featuring basketball in various ways to get fans excited about the upcoming season.
