The BIG EAST opens up the 2012-13 season on Friday with nine teams in action. Headlining the schedule is No. 7/6 Notre Dame which takes on No. 19/21 Ohio State aboard the USS Yorktown off the coast of Charleston, S.C. at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be televised via tape delay on the NBC Sports Network at 11 p.m. ET.

Notre Dame and Ohio State are playing what is believed to be one of the first outdoor women's basketball games in NCAA Division I history. Records are incomplete for some programs during their early years, with indications that a few Southern schools (particularly in Florida) may have played one or more outdoor games as members of the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Other action has No. 9/9 Louisville against No. 15/12 Texas A&M in the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m. The game will be televised locally and is the back end of a home-and-home series with the Aggies. Last year Texas A&M won in College Station.

No. 14/13 St. John's faces Texas at 3:30 p.m. at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., as part of the WBI Tip Off Invitational presented by Sport Tours. Friday's contest is the first game for new head coach Joe Tartamella, who was hired as St. John's eighth bench boss on April 27, 2012.

No. 25/rv DePaul women's basketball team opens its 2012-13 season by hosting the Maggie Dixon Classic, Nov. 9-10.  The Blue Demons welcome Dayton, Mississippi Valley State and Nicholls State for the two-day tournament at McGrath-Phillips Arena.  DePaul tips its season at 5:30 p.m. against Nicholls State on Friday.

Formerly known as the DePaul Invitational, the Maggie Dixon Classic was renamed in 2009 and honors former Blue Demon assistant coach Maggie Dixon, who died on April 6, 2006 of an arrhythmia.

Georgetown begins the year in the Preseason WNIT against Sacred Heart. The Hoyas are receiving votes in both polls and are under the direction of first-year head coach Keith Brown. No stranger to the program, Brown spent five years as the top assistant with the Hoyas.

Pittsburgh begins the day with an 11 a.m. contest against Youngstown State. Over 3,500 local elementary and middle schoolers are expected to attend the fourth-annual School Day.

Seton Hall tips off against instate rival foe NJIT at 5 p.m., while Cincinnati hosts Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. Providence welcomes Drexel at 7 p.m., as new head coach Susan Robinson Fructal takes over in Friartown.
