Five BIG EAST Women's Basketball Teams Among Nation's Top-25

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The BIG EAST Conference landed five women's basketball teams in both the Associated Press and the USA Today/ESPN polls after the opening week of play. Connecticut topped the lists at No. 1, after dominating Holy Cross 117-37 on Nov. 14. Junior guard Tiffany Hayes led the Huskies with 32 points. West Virginia held on to No. 11 in the USA Today/ESPN Poll, while moving up a spot to No. 10 in the AP Poll. The Mountaineers downed Loyola (Md.) 80-49 on Nov. 12. Notre Dame and Georgetown held their ground in both rankings at No. 12 and No. 13, respectively. The Irish reached the 90-point mark in both games this season, destroying New Hampshire 99-48 on Nov. 12 and Morehead State 91-28 on Nov. 15. The Hoyas defeated Augusta State 79-41 on Nov. 13. St. John's rounded out the rankings for the BIG EAST at No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 23 in the USA Today/ESPN Poll. The Red Storm beat Marist 64-50 on Nov. 12 and lost 64-53 to Kansas State on Nov. 13.
