Updated BIG EAST Notes
A pair of BIG EAST teams will be in action at home on Wednesday night as Villanova (7-1) hosts Princeton at 7 p.m., and Rutgers (5-3) takes on Southern University.
The Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the league having won their last six in a row. Not surprisingly, Villanova leads the league in 3-point shooting averaging 8.4 per contest. The Wildcats have led the Conference in 3-point field goals made each of the last five years since 2007-08.
Rutgers is riding a two-game winning streak and begins a three-game homestand. The Scarlet Knights are currently 3-0 at home this year and have won their last five straight games at the RAC dating back to last season (Feb. 12, 2012).
In action Tuesday afternoon, DePaul (7-3) beat Milwaukee 94-83 behind 30 points from guard Anna Martin. The senior played just 29 minutes, yet posted her highest scoring total of the year. The Blue Demons led 41-34 at halftime, then shot a blistering 59-percent over the final 20 minutes and scored 53 points. The game was played before a sellout crowd of 4,001 as part of Field Trip Day.
Field Trip Day is a DePaul Athletics service project which provides local elementary children a glimpse of college life and for some it is their first time on a college campus. The Athletics Department provides free busing and game tickets to children from the city and surrounding suburbs. DePaul's Field Trip Day is in its sixth year while the event normally draws a sold out crowd of enthusiastic young Blue Demon fans most in their first blue DePaul t-shirt.
