NEW YORK, N.Y. – BIG EAST women’s basketball teams went 4-4 over a quiet weekend of play, as nonconference play winds down and teams prepare for final exams and the holidays. Butler helped to highlight the weekend, winning twice to improve to 5-5 on the season.
Taylor Schippers tallied a weekend-high 21 points against Valparaiso on Friday night, helping the Bulldogs to a 65-50 victory. In Villanova’s 83-47 win over Big 5 Foe La Salle on Sunday afternoon, Emily Leet matched Schippers’ scoring total of 21 on 9-of-12 shooting, the most accurate clip by a BIG EAST player this weekend.
Marquette’s Katherine Plouffe led the rebounding efforts with a 15-board performance against Milwaukee on Sunday. Plouffe maintained her grasp on the No. 2 spot in the BIG EAST season rebounding rankings, averaging 11.0 caroms per game.
Eugeneia McPherson of St. John’s earned a spot on the SJU Chartwells Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 12.0 points and 2.0 assists per game, shooting 50 percen (4-of-8) from three to boot.
