Updated BIG EAST Notes
A pair of BIG EAST teams were in action on Tuesday night and both were winners. DePaul (9-3) won at Loyola Chicago 87-69, while No. 14/13 Louisville (10-2) beat Washington State 75-39 at home.
In the Blue Demons win, senior Anna Martin scored 28 points and classmate Katherine Harry grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds. Martin led three Blue Demons in double-figures, shot 75 percent from the field (12-of-16) and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Harry also chipped in eight points and increased her league-leading total to 11.7 rebounds per game. DePaul has won three in a row.
The Cardinals also had a balanced scoring attack and finished the game with four players in double figures. Sophomore Sara Hammond led the way netting a game-high 18 points. Sophomore Bria Smith added 13 points, junior Shoni Schimmel finished with 12 and sophomore Jude Schimmel recorded 10.
The Cardinals were playing their first game without starting forward Shawnta' Dyer. The sophomore, who was averaging 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, tore her ACL and MCL in her left knee during practice Sunday and is out for the rest of the season.
On Wednesday, five league teams take the court, beginning with Seton Hall at 1 p.m. The Pirates (3-7) host New Orleans, while Marquette (4-5) welcomes Navy, also at 1 p.m. Later this evening, No. 5/5 Notre Dame (6-1) takes on Alabama A&M at 6 p.m., in the World Vision Classic held in Las Vegas, Nev. No. 2/2 Connecticut (8-0) hosts Oakland at 7 p.m. at the XL Center, and Providence (2-7) takes on Clemson at 9 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
