Allie Quigley graduated in 2008 as DePaul’s No. 3 scorer, totaling 2,078 points to be one of just four players all-time to eclipse the 2,000-point mark in the Blue Demon uniform. She has played professionally throughout Europe and on WNBA squads, including most recently for the Chicago Sky.
Hey BIG EAST fans!
I'm currently playing basketball in Krakow, Poland for a club called Wisla Can Pack. The club has a strong tradition and has been around since 1906! Krakow is a big city with a lot of students so it's always busy and there's plenty to do. We play one game a week in the Polish league and one game per week in the Euroleague.
Euroleague consists of the top teams in all of Europe. Every game matters in these leagues because at the end of the year, we will get seeded for the playoffs. Obviously a better regular-season record will give us an easier opponent come playoff time. It reminds me a lot of conference play back in college!
I can remember playing a tough non-conference schedule just so we could prepare ourselves for the competitive BIG EAST. Every single team from top to bottom was talented. There was never a night off when it came to conference play. I was lucky enough to go to 4 four NCAA Tournaments while at DePaul and playing in the BIG EAST definitely prepared our teams for that single-elimination tournament.
I can still remember getting so excited when conference play started. Every game felt like the most important game of my life because it was such a competitive league. One of our biggest rivals was Marquette because they were so close to us and I can remember all week long prior to the game, Coach Bruno would pump us up and make sure we were ready for anything.
Our fans would travel to Marquette and vice-versa, so those games always had a great college basketball atmosphere. Some of my best memories of college were in McGrath Phillips Arena. We always packed the house and felt like our fans were a sixth man.
It's so great that Chicago will be hosting the BIG EAST Tournament this year at All State Arena! I remember we hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament my sophomore year at All State and it was my best memory as a Blue Demon. We made it to the Sweet 16 that year. The support we got was overwhelming and it felt so good to be home in front of our family and friends.
Although it's not DePaul's home court, I think it's the perfect venue to bring one of the best women's basketball tournaments. Having played there all last summer with the Chicago Sky, it feels like home to me now and I know the Chicago area will back the team and fill as many seats as possible!
Thanks for checking in and hopefully I’ll have more updates for you all in the future!
