NEW YORK, N.Y. - After five days without a game, all 10 BIG EAST women's basketball teams will return to the courts this weekend. Saturday's four-game schedule is highlighted by the opening of the league schedule as Seton Hall and St. John's will lift the lid on BIG EAST action at 2 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y.

The Pirates and Red Storm will meet for the 65th time in program history, while Villanova and Creighton will square off for the first time in Omaha, Neb., at 3:05 p.m. Rounding out the conference schedule this weekend, Marquette will travel to Butler for a 6 p.m. tilt. The two new league foes have battled eight times previously as non-conference opponents.

Four non-BIG EAST games will also be played this weekend, including Providence hosting regional foe Boston College. That game will be televised to a national audience on Sunday via FOX Sports 1 at 3 p.m.

Eight of 10 BIG EAST teams enter the weekend with records at .500 or better, while seven will defend active winning streaks. Villanova (9-1) and Marquette (9-2) stand atop the leader board with nine non-conference wins apiece, while the Golden Eagles carry a BIG EAST-best three-game winning streak. DePaul is not far behind with an 8-3 record. The Blue Demons received votes in both national polls on Tuesday.

St. John's, which knocked off nationally ranked Texas A&M last Sunday, boasts the BIG EAST's leading scorer in Aliyyah Handford (20.9 PPG). Seton Hall's Tabatha Richardson-Smith could regain the scoring title this weekend, as she enters the game against the Red Storm with a 20.8 average.
