MILESTONE WIN
West Virginia head coach Mike Carey earned his 500th career victory as the Mountaineers defeated Bucknell 72-30 at home on Dec. 28. DePaul head coach Doug Bruno will be aiming for his 500th career victory when the Blue Demons host Northern Illinois on Dec. 31 at 3 p.m. Carey joins several other league coaches in winning milestones this season as Villanova head coach Harry Perretta collected his 600th win, Marquette head coach Terri Mitchell earned her 300th, St. John's head coach Kim Barnes Arico posted her 250th career win and both Louisville head coach Jeff Walz and Syracuse head coach Quentin Hillsman tallied their 100th wins. Pittsburgh head coach Agnus Berenato won her 150th game with the Panthers and Rutgers head coach C. Vivian Stringer won her 350th contest with the Scarlet Knights.  
 
 
FULL HOUSE
Notre Dame hosted its second sellout of the month with 9,149 fans in attendance for a victory against Longwood on Dec. 28. The Fighting Irish are averaging 8,618 fans per game at home this season. DePaul, Marquette and Seton Hall have each had a sellout so far this year as well.

CONNECTICUT'S 2002 TEAM HONORED
During a halftime ceremony in Connecticut's win against Fairfield last night, the Huskies' 2002 national championship team was inducted as "Huskies of Honor." Among those in attendance for the festivities were Sue Bird, Maria Conlon and Svetlana Abrosimova. The 2001-02 team won the 2002 NCAA National Championship and posted the Huskies' second perfect season, going 39-0.
 
 
TOURNAMENT PLAY
 
Several teams are competing in holiday tournaments this week. Cincinnati won its tournament, while Georgetown and Villanova are competing in the championship game. The Bearcats defeated High Point in the Garden Inn Hokie Classic championship game 62-40 on Dec. 29. No. 15/16 Georgetown made it 10 wins in a row on Dec. 29, defeating Vermont 65-53 at the 35th Annual Blue Sky Classic, hosted by Dartmouth. The Hoyas will play Dartmouth on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. in the championship game. Villanova is riding a seven-game winning streak and is back in action at the Monmouth Tournament in West Long Branch, N.J., playing host Monmouth in the championship game on Friday at 4 p.m. In the first round, Villanova posted a 55-44 win over Saint Bonaventure. USF will wrap up competition at the Holiday Classic, playing host Saint Peter's on Friday at 5 p.m. after falling to Dayton in the first round.
