NEW YORK, N.Y. – BIG EAST women’s basketball concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday as Seton Hall defeated Stony Brook 80-65. St. John’s also played a non-league tilt this week, knocking off Delaware 61-58 on Monday afternoon.

Villanova and Marquette played in the lone BIG EAST game prior to the New Year this week, as the two squads battled down to the wire with the Wildcats escaping Milwaukee with a 63-61 win on Wednesday. VU went on a 9-0 run to capture the lead with 8:43 remaining, its first advantage since early in the first half. Villanova’s Caroline Coyer led all scorers with 20 points, while Katherine Plouffe, who was playing in her first game since Dec. 15, led the Golden Eagles with 14 points, nine rebounds.

Four Pirates scored in double figures against Stony Brook, highlighted by a career-high 18-point showing by Alexis Brown. SHU turned 23 SBU turnovers into 25 points. For St. John’s, Amber Thompson notched a double-double of 14 points, 15 rebounds in 33 minutes of turnover-free play.
