STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut field hockey team defeated the University of New Hampshire, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in an exhibition contest. The game was the lone exhibition matchup for the Huskies before they kick off regular-season play at Stanford on Friday, August 31st at 2 p.m.

UNH struck first in the eighth minute of play, grabbing a 1-0 lead when Lynne Lehman fired a shot past Sarah Mansfield into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The Huskies responded six minutes later when Sophie Bowden sped past two Wildcat defenders and made a great pass to forward Chloe Hunnable who buried a shot in the bottom left of the goal to knot the score at 1-1.

UConn added some insurance just seconds before the end of the first half when newcomer Olivia Bolles fired a shot off the Wildcat goalkeeper, corralled the rebound, and finished off the play with a shot to the top left of the net with just six seconds remaining in the first half of action.

The second half was a defensive battle, as the Huskies allowed just eight shots. Mansfield played all 70 minutes and recorded six saves in the contest.

The Huskies also held a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.

UConn will be looking to open the regular season with a win for the 10th consecutive year next weekend in Palo Alto, Calif. UConn's home opener is set for September 13th at 6 p.m.
