WASHINGTON – The Georgetown (2-10, 0-3) field hockey team traveled to Norfolk, Va. on Sunday to take on the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs (5-6, 2-1), who defeated the Hoyas, 7-0. The BIG EAST matchup was Georgetown’s third conference game of the season and first ever matchup against Old Dominion.
Old Dominion scored four goals in the first half. Junior forward Rosario Villagra scored two unassisted goals 13:28 and 21:20 into the first half, both which came right in front of the net. About a minute after Villagra’s second goal, senior back Christy Longacre scored off a penalty corner. The Lady Monarchs took 16 penalty corners to Georgetown’s one in the game. Sophomore back Emily Harting put Old Dominion up 4-0 going into the half on an unassisted goal.
The Lady Monarchs added three more goals in the second half to win by the eventual score of 7-0. Villagra notched her third goal of the game 11 minutes into the second half; Harting and Katy Fuhrman assisted her on the play. Senior back Danielle Clutter and freshman forward Casey Dolan rounded out the scoring for the Lady Monarchs.
Georgetown’s Rosalie Nolen got the start for the Hoyas, her 12th of the season. She faced 21 shots on goal, saving 14 of them.
The Hoyas were outshot 22-1 in the BIG EAST matchup. GU’s Louise Chakejian, a sophomore midfielder, took the lone shot on goal for the Hoyas.
Georgetown only has one game next weekend when they take on Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. on Sat., Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
