Today in the BIG EAST- Monday, Aug. 29

Field Hockey
Both the Connecticut and Rutgers field hockey teams are in action today, as they make up games postponed from last weekend. No. 4 Connecticut will host No. 20 Stanford at 1 p.m. while Rutgers will host Delaware at 4 p.m.

The Huskies, picked as the favorite to win the league, are coming off a 7-1 victory over Hofstra on Friday. Senior Jestine Angelini led the way with three goals and an assist for seven points. The face-off with Stanford is the first top-20 match up for Connecticut this season.

The Scarlet Knights are looking to ride the momentum they created with a 5-1 win over James Madison on Friday. The victory avenged their season opening loss to JMU last season. Rutgers was paced by senior Kat Rodziewicz who scored two goals in the victory.

Men's Soccer
The opening weekend of men's soccer was successful, as three BIG EAST teams picked up wins against preseason ranked teams (Louisville posted a victory against No. 6/2 UCLA, USF defeated No. RV/13 Wake Forest and West Virginia defeated No. 22/11 Virginia). Notre Dame battled to a 0-0 draw against No. 17/18 Indiana. The competition will continue on Monday afternoon, as Georgetown opens its season against VCU at home, Providence will play at Quinnipiac and Pittsburgh will match up against Saint Francis (Pa.) in Loretto, Pa. All three games kick off at 4 p.m.

In today's only volleyball match, Marquette (2-1) travels to face No. 14 Northern Iowa (3-0) at 6 p.m.
