Field Hockey Minute - PC Clipped At Maine

Providence (0-1) lost a 3-2 overtime decision to No. 22 Maine in Orono. The Friars bounced back from an early first half goal to tie the game on an unassisted goal from junior Brittany Ross. Providence battled back again after trailing 2-1 at halftime to tie it 2-2. Sophomore Daniella Bernasconi tipped in a rebounded shot from the top of the circle to send the game to overtime. Maine converted on a penalty corner to end the contest.  



Providence's game at Maine marks the third overtime contest for a BIG EAST field hockey team this week. The BIG EAST is currently 1-2 in overtime play, with both losses coming to nationally ranked opponents.



No. 6 Connecticut and No. 7 Syracuse got off to a quick start last weekend. Both top 10 teams went 2-0, while scoring a combined 25 goals and allowing just one. The Orange's Kelsey Millman took BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for week one, while Connecticut's Alicia Angelini was awarded BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.



Friday night BIG EAST field hockey will take on another round of ranked opponents as No. 9 Penn State travels to No. 6 Connecticut and No. 14 Boston University plays Providence. No. 6 Syracuse also will host No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday.
