Voelmle Named BIG EAST Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

<P>University of Louisville junior <A HREF=Alyssa Voelmle has been named BIG EAST Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 8.

Voelmle, a defender from Hershey, Pa., led the Cardinals to a pair of victories, scoring two goals on the week as Louisville defeated William & Mary 4-1 and Ohio 6-2. She helped the Louisville defense hold Ohio to only five shots.

The 2013 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection has scored in three of the Cardinals' four games and is tied for the team lead with three goals on the season. This marks the second time Voelmle has earned the league's weekly honor - she was also the Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22, 2012.

UofL (3-1) will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face UC Davis Friday at 1 p.m. and the host Wolverines Saturday at 1 p.m.
