Louisville and Connecticut Land Repeat BIG EAST Weekly Field Hockey Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - No. 12 Louisville and No. 6 Connecticut split this week's BIG EAST Conference field hockey weekly accolades. Louisville's Nicole Youman was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while UConn's Sarah Mansfield was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the second such honor for both players.
Youman totaled seven goals and added two assists to lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 record last week. The senior registered four goals in a 6-1 win over Georgetown in Louisville's BIG EAST opener and followed that performance with three goals and two assists in a 7-1 win over Radford. Youman leads the team and the conference with 12 goals, six assists and 30 points on the season. Her two assists in Sunday's Radford game gave her a school record 39 career assists. She also vaulted to second on the list for career goals (40) and points (119). Last week's performance marked Youman's third hat trick this season. The Black Mountain, Australia, native has scored in three games this season, each time tallying three or more goals.
Mansfield earned a pair of wins last week, including a 2-0 shutout victory against No. 14 Drexel. The freshman keeper played all 140 minutes of Connecticut's two victories, making eight saves, while allowing just one goal. She recorded two saves at Villanova in her BIG EAST debut and stopped six shots against Drexel to earn her third shutout this season. She leads the conference with a 0.44 GAA.
The BIG EAST enters its second week of conference play this week as Villanova travels to Rutgers Friday for a 4 p.m. start, while Connecticut hosts Providence at 7 p.m. The first conference top-20 matchup is Saturday as No. 12 Louisville takes on No. 8 Syracuse.
