STORRS, Conn. - The No. 3 University of Connecticut field hockey team is primed for two home games this weekend, as the team will play host to Villanova on Saturday, September 28 at 12 p.m. and defending national champion Princeton on Sunday at 2 p.m. All action takes place at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs.
UConn is led in scoring by Chloe Hunnable’s seven goals and two assists for 16 points and Anne Jeute’s five goals and three assists for 13 points. Reigning Big East Defensive Player of the Week Roisin Upton is third with 10 points and leads the squad with four assists.
UConn is 3-0 against ranked teams this season, winning at No. 12 Stanford and No. 6 Penn State and against No. 7 UMass. The Huskies are 19-7 in their last 26 games against ranked teams.
Villanova comes into Saturday’s contest with a 2-5 record and a 1-0 mark in Big East play. Jessica Swoboda leads the scoring attack for the Wildcats with three goals and Courtney Devine has chipped in with a pair of scores. The team is being outscored by the opposition, 24-9, this season but that is skewed slightly due to a 10-0 loss at the hands of No. 1 North Carolina earlier this year.
Princeton comes into its Friday matchup against Yale with a 4-2 record with losses coming to #5 Syracuse and #13 Penn State. Teresa Benvenuti leads the Tigers with six goals and 16 points and Allison Evans is right on her heels with four goals and 11 points.
The Huskies are 24-6 all-time against Villanova and sport a 12-7 mark all-time against Princeton.
