Louisville Sweeps BIG EAST Player of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. â?" No. 10 Louisville swept the BIG EAST weekly field hockey awards for the week ending Oct. 3 as Hayley Turner was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Karah Nall was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. This is the third offensive honor and first defensive honor for the Cardinals this season.

Turner scored two goals and dished out two assists for six points to lead Louisville to a 2-0 record last week. The juniorâ?TMs goal against No. 5 Connecticut with 1:15 remaining in regulation Friday sent the game into overtime. She then scored the gamewinner with four minutes remaining in overtime. She recorded two assists in a 7-0 win over Saint Louis Saturday. She is now second on the team with five goals, five assists and 15 points on the season.

Nall led the Cardinal defense in a 2-0 performance last week. The defender was solid in a 3-2 overtime win against the No. 5 Huskies Friday. The senior did not allow a shot Saturday as Louisville shut out Saint Louis 7-0. The shutout was the third for the Cardinal defense this season.

The BIG EAST enters its fourth week of conference play as Georgetown travels to No. 5 Connecticut Saturday for a noon start. Rutgers hosts No. 10 Louisville at noon Saturday, while Providence squares off at Villanova for a 1 p.m. game. In ranked-opponent action this week, No. 5 Connecticut takes on No. 2 North Carolina Sunday at noon. No. 10 Louisville travels to No. 4 Princeton Sunday for a 1 p.m. start, while No. 8 Syracuse travels to No. 17 Albany for a 2 p.m. game.
