BIG EAST Field Hockey Ranks Among Nation's Best

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Three BIG EAST Field Hockey teams land in the top-10 of the Kookaburra/NFHCA National Poll for the sixth straight week. This is the ninth consecutive week the teams have ranked in the top-20 with Connecticut remaining No. 4, while Syracuse jumped to No. 7 and Louisville staying in the No. 10 spot. 
 
In fourth, the Huskies tallied 805 points with a 13-4 record this season. UConn has held the No. 4 slot three times this season and has ranked in the top-five eight times. Connecticut went 1-1 last week, including a 3-0 shutout over then-No. 15 Boston University Oct. 20. The Huskies lead the BIG EAST with seven shutouts and a 0.85 team GAA. They are second in the nation in GAA and fourth in shutouts per game with 0.41.
 
Slotted seventh, Syracuse collected 688 points with a 12-4 mark for the 2010 campaign. The Orange went 2-0 last week, shutting out No. 4 Connecticut 1-0 in double overtime Oct. 23 to clinch at least a share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for the third straight year. SU is the only BIG EAST team without a loss in conference play this season, going 5-0. Syracuse has a scoring average of 2.82 and a GAA of 1.12.
 
Louisville totaled 495 points, holding on to the 10th position with a 13-5 overall record. This is the third consecutive week the Cardinals have held the No. 10 spot and fifth overall this season. They went 2-0 last week, defeating BIG EAST opponent Providence 2-1 Oct. 23 and New Hampshire 3-2 Oct. 24. UofL leads the conference with a 3.42 scoring average and 3.61 goals per game, ranking eighth and sixth nationally in those respective categories. 
 
The BIG EAST enters its final week of conference play with two teams vying for a spot in the BIG EAST Championships. No. 4 Connecticut hosts Rutgers Oct. 30 at 1 p.m., while No. 8 Syracuse also hosts Villanova Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. Providence travels to Georgetown Oct. 30 for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
