PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Connecticut field hockey team clinched the regular-season championship with a 5-0 victory over Rutgers on Oct. 28.  The title is its 12th overall, all of which have come since 1996.

Connecticut's offense is led by three underclassmen, sophomores Marie Elena Bolles and Anne Jeute and freshman Chloe Hunnable.  The three have combined for 85 points on 33 goals and 19 assists throughout the season.  The UConn defense, paced by senior back Jestine Angelini and sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Mansfield, leads the league in shutouts (seven), goals against average (0.87) and goals allowed per game (0.88).

The Huskies, 16-1 on the season and 6-0 in BIG EAST play, will be the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST championship Nov. 4 and 6 at Syracuse University.  They will be looking for the program's 12th Championship title.
