PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Syracuse senior Heather Susek has been named BIG EAST field hockey Offensive Player of the Week and Connecticut senior Jestine Angelini was tabbed BIG EAST field hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the final week of regular-season action.
Susek registered five points on two goals and an assist in two Syracuse victories last week. She scored the game-winning goal with 3:22 left in regulation in a 3-2 victory over Villanova. Susek also recorded the first goal of the afternoon and assisted on another in a 3-1 win over Bucknell on Senior Day. She finished the regular season tied for the team and BIG EAST lead with 17 goals. She also tops the conference with 75 shots and is second in points per game with 0.88.
Angelini anchored a defense that allowed just five shots on goal in a shutout victory over Rutgers. The win clinched the outright regular-season championship for Connecticut. All four spots to the BIG EAST Championship have been clinched. Connecticut will represent the No. 1 seed while Syracuse has claimed No. 2. Villanova and Louisville will take seeds No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. The tournament is scheduled for Nov. 4 and 6 at Syracuse University.
