Four BIG EAST Field Hockey Players Compete in NFHCA Senior Game

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Four BIG EAST field hockey players from three different schools were selected to compete in the 2010 NFHCA Division I Senior Game November 20 at the University of Maryland.
 
Syracuse forward Lindsey Conrad helped the seventh-ranked Orange clinch their third consecutive BIG EAST regular season championship this season, while recording six goals for 12 points. Syracuse finished the regular season with a 13-4 overall record and a 6-0 conference mark. Conrad was named the 2010 Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year.  
 
Midfielder Melissa Gonzalez anchored the No. 4 Connecticut defense. The Huskies led the BIG EAST in shutouts (8) and goals against average (0.80). UConn went 14-4 in regular season play this year and hold a 4-2 league mark. Gonzalez was selected as the 2009 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year as a junior.
 
No. 12 Louisville has two players represented on the senior game squad in midfielder Rachel Hollenbach and forward Nicole Youman. Both athletes started in all of the Cardinals' 19 games. Hollenbach scored four goals and had two assists for 10 points. Youman leads the BIG EAST in every offensive category, tallying 17 goals and dishing out 19 assists to collect 53 points. The pair helped Louisville to a 13-6 overall record and a 5-1 record in BIG EAST play.  
 
The BIG EAST regular season concluded last week, but all four seniors will be back in action this week vying for the 2010 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship. The University of Connecticut will host the single-elimination event with the semifinals Nov. 6 and the championship game Nov. 7. All contests will be held at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
