Providence College freshman Emma Mackie (Delta, British Columbia) was honored by Field Hockey BC as Junior Female Player of the Year (U-18) on November 2, 2012. The honor was announced at FHBC's annual awards dinner in Vancouver, B.C., while Mackie was competing with the Friars at the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Field Hockey Championship in Louisville, Ky.
Field Hockey BC is the Provincial Sports Organization (PSO) responsible for supporting Field Hockey in the province of British Columbia. In partnership with the National body `Field Hockey Canada' (FHC), Field Hockey BC provides opportunities for British Columbians to play field hockey at a high level of competition.
A native of Delta, British Columbia, Mackie most recently competed with the Delta Falcons Field Hockey Club prior to her arrival at Providence in the fall of 2012. While with the Friars, Mackie made an immediate impact as a member of the squad's starting line-up. In her rookie season, Mackie racked up seven points on two goals and three assists as part of the midfield.
She notched her first collegiate goal against Kent State on September 3, and scored a season high three points (1 goal/1 assist) against Towson on September 16. Mackie recorded two assists during BIG EAST regular-season action. The first came against Georgetown on September 14, and she followed with an assist on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Villanova on October 13.
