NORFOLK, Va. – Five BIG EAST Conference field hockey players were among the 38 selected to play in the 2013 NFHCA Senior Game, held in conjunction with the NCAA Championship last weekend. Connecticut’s Marie Elena Bolles and Sarah Mansfield, Molly Doyle of Temple, Lisa Patrone of Rutgers and Christy Longacre of Old Dominion, which served as the weekend host, were all listed on the game’s roster.
Bolles (At-Large First Team), Mansfield (Goalkeeper, First Team), Doyle (Forward, Second Team) and Longacre (Back, First Team) each earned All-BIG EAST plaudits this season, while Longacre was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. Patrone started all 18 games for the Scarlet Knights in 2013, tying for the team lead with five assists.
The NFHCA Senior Game took place on Saturday prior to Sunday’s NCAA title game, which saw the Huskies claim their third national title with a 2-0 victory over Duke. Bolles and Mansfield, who did not participate in Saturday’s tilt, were named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team following their win on Sunday afternoon.
