WLAX Minute: Louisville Opens, Six More This Week

Feb. 11, 2014

One Down, Seven To Go
The first of eight teams lifted the lid on the 2014 schedule as RV/NR Louisville fell at No. 5/6 Duke, 14-11, on Sunday.  Cincinnati follows on Wednesday at No. 11/11 Notre Dame, before a busy Saturday in the BIG EAST has Marquette at RV/RV Johns Hopkins, No. 10/9 Georgetown hosting RV/NR Delaware, RV/NR Connecticut welcoming No. 12/13 Massachusetts, Rutgers traveling to Manhattan and Temple hosting Saint Joseph’s. Villanova is the final team to begin its season as the Wildcats will open on Feb. 22 at home against Michigan.

Louisville-Duke Look Back
The Cardinals scored four of the first five goals of the game but were unable to sustain as the No. 5/6 Blue Devils tallied six consecutive scores and four of the final five goals of the contest en route to a 14-11 win over RV/NR Louisville. Nikki Boltja, a unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, had a team-high five goals, including the Cardinals' fourth unanswered score to open the game. Kay Morissette registered a game-high seven draw controls while Ashley Herbst made seven saves.

In The Polls
Of the eight member schools, one squad is listed in both major polls while two others have received votes in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll. Announced on Monday, Georgetown leads the pack coming in at No. 10 in the ILWCA and No. 9 in the Brine Media Poll. Connecticut and Louisville both received votes in the ILWCA Poll. The Hoyas were tabbed BIG EAST preseason favorites just under two weeks ago, with Connecticut and Louisville following in second and third, respectively.
