PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Syracuse women's lacrosse junior Michelle Tumolo, the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Loyola senior Kellye Gallagher was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
Tumolo earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording five points in a 10-9 win at then-No. 3/4 Maryland on March 10. She scored three goals and had two assists. The junior also registered two draw controls and one caused turnover. Tumolo leads the Orange with 19 points and nine assists this season.
Gallagher was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after amassing 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in a 2-0 week. In a 12-10 overtime victory at then-No. 12/14 Penn State on March 7, the senior had a game-high five ground balls and caused a game-high five turnovers. Gallagher also had a season-high seven ground balls in a 12-11 win over crosstown rival UMBC on March 10. She leads the BIG EAST averaging 4.4 ground balls and 3.2 caused turnovers.

Totaled nine draw controls, six caused turnovers and four ground balls in a 1-1 week; scored her first collegiate goal against Presbyterian.
Margaret Smith, Notre Dame, So., M
Recorded a career-high six caused turnovers, along with five draw controls, four ground balls and two points in a 14-11 win over Boston University.
Ali Steinberg, Rutgers, Sr., M
Totaled eight draw controls, four goals, four ground balls and four caused turnovers in a 1-1 week; tied a career-high with four goals in a 15-7 win at Hofstra.
Maggie Tamasitis, Notre Dame, Sr., A
Had nine points, including five goals, in a 14-11 win at Boston University; became the school's all-time assist leader (with 107).
Brittney Testa, Connecticut, Jr., GK
Totaled 23 saves, a .548 save percentage and a 9.5 goals-against average in a 2-0 week; had 13 saves in a 13-10 win over Fairfield.
The Inside Scoop
WINS OVER RANKED - BIG EAST teams have already totaled eight wins over ranked teams this year, including a pair of victories last week by Loyola and Syracuse. In addition, four different schools have recorded the wins, including Notre Dame and Rutgers. Last year, the league tallied five wins against ranked opponents, while in 2010 the BIG EAST had nine wins over ranked teams.
