Georgetown and Syracuse Split WLax Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Georgetown junior Sophia Thomas earned BIG EAST women's lacrosse Offense Player of the Week honors for Week 6, while Syracuse junior Becca Block was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Thomas earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after amassing 11 points, including 10 goals in a 1-1 week. The junior scored a career-high six goals in an 11-9 win over then-No. 8/9 Penn on March 21. Thomas also scored a team-leading four goals in a 15-14 overtime loss to then-No. 16/- Loyola on March 24. She also totaled three draw controls in the two games.
 
Block was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week following a 20-8 win over UConn. The junior marked UConn's leading scorer M.E. Lapham (33 points, 25 goals) and held her to just one score. It was the third straight game Syracuse has held its opponent to less than 10 goals.

Had eight goals in a 2-0 week; matched her career-high with four in each contest last week, including an 8-7 win over St. Joseph's and an 11-10 double-overtime win over Fairfield.
 
Justine Donodeo, Villanova, Sr., M
Totaled 10 points, including eight goals in a 1-1 week; became the sixth player in school history to score more than 100 career goals.
 
Maggie Tamasitis, Notre Dame, Sr., A
Scored two goals and dished out four assists in a 13-11 win over Louisville; She leads the league in assists (27) and points (37).
 
Annie Thomas, Loyola, Fr., A
Notched a career-high four points, including the gamewinner, in a 15-14 overtime win over then-No. 13/12 Georgetown.
 
Katie Webster, Syracuse, So., M
Recorded six points, including five goals in a 20-8 win over UConn.
 
 
The INSIDE SCOOP
WINS OVER RANKED TEAMS - BIG EAST teams have totaled 12 wins over ranked teams this year, including a victory last week by Georgetown. In addition, five different schools have recorded the wins, including Notre Dame, Loyola, Rutgers and Syracuse. Last year, the league tallied five wins against ranked opponents, while in 2010 the BIG EAST had nine wins over ranked teams.
